Understanding Common Injuries.


Overuse injuries develop when repeated stress is placed on muscles, tendons, or joints without adequate recovery. These injuries tend to build gradually, presenting as ongoing pain, tenderness, stiffness, or swelling. Common examples include shin splints, runner’s knee, and swimmer’s shoulder, often affecting athletes who train frequently or increase load too quickly.


Acute injuries occur suddenly, usually as a result of a fall, direct impact, or an awkward or explosive movement. They often cause immediate pain, swelling, and a noticeable reduction in movement or strength. Typical examples include ankle sprains, muscle strains, and cartilage injuries such as meniscus tears.
